Donetta Faye (Daye) Cooper is an educator, anthropologist, clinical counsellor, and in love with the ocean.  She graduated valedictorian from the University of British Columbia in 2009 with a Bachelor of Arts in anthropology and religious studies.   In 2010, she earned a Master's degree in Anthropology from the University of Toronto including the University of Toronto's Teaching Excellence Award.  Following over a decade of experience in youth work and education, Daye completed a second Master's degree in Counselling Psychology at the University of Victoria.

In addition to academic pursuits, Daye completed the Rocky Mountain Outdoor Educator program from the National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS), and Canadian Outdoor Leadership Training (COLT) from Strathcona Park Lodge.  Daye holds an advanced wilderness first aid certificate and a Level 3 guiding cert with the Sea Kayak Guides Alliance of BC.  Since 2001 she has been paddling and guiding along BC's west coast including the Gulf Islands, Johnstone Strait, Clayoquot Sound, Barclay Sound, Nootka Sound, Kyuquot Sound, Sunshine Coast, Indian Arm, and Jordan River.

When she's not on the sea, Daye works as a Clinical Counsellor with Nuu-chah-nulth Tribal Council and as the Executive Director of the Sea Kayak Guides Alliance of B.C.

See the Mental Health Wilderness First Aid "About" page for a more clinical biography for Daye.

Two years ago, my friend and colleague Shanna and I took an epic road trip down to Corvallis, Oregon, to watch the 2017 solar eclipse. We had a fantastic adventure. I made a music-video-slideshow to commemorate :)
